Over the years, lighthouses have both warned and welcomed storm tossed navigators. The lighthouse is symbolic of reassurance and direction in the darkness.
Though lighthouses are no longer essential to ship navigation, many, like the Cape May Light pictured here, are preserved by civic groups because people revere them as icons of stability in a world that often seems turbulent and confusing.
We all need a trim ship, a worthy course, and a few good lights to steer by.
